Download Festival Sydney… the first heavy festival I’ve covered since Soundwave 2015 was still a thing, and it was damn good.
Whilst this style of music is not my usual photo gig, it’s actually where most of it began for me. My live music photo life was defined by unknown, small and some decent sized heavy bands playing in a local venue, and me photographing. I was that girl in the corner with a camera, sticking out like a sore thumb due to my non-black outfits of choice. Some of my greatest nights have been around this kind of music, including some of my best photography stories. My most notable being in the early days getting stuck on the outskirts of a circle pit and being knocked out against a wall - that was not so fun, but made for a great anecdote.
Download Festival began for me with a damn early flight to Sydney, a kerfuffle to collect my hire car, and my first attempt of driving around inner Sydney (side note: Sydney drivers are awful). Throughout the festival I saw so many faces from all around Australia that I hadn’t seen in years, and met some wonderful new ones. The night ended with me stoked on the high of shooting and exhausted from the actual shooting, eating salt and vinegar chips as I drove back to a friends brothers (who I’d never met before) house to sleep the night. I’m eternally grateful for that wonderfully comfortable couch-bed these kind hearted people put me up in.
ENJOY SOME PHOTOS OF THESE SICK BANDS!

A warm Brisbane day of branding ALT with some super cool festival goers. I also had the opportunity to slip away and capture some of the amazing artists.
Check out my full gallery below.

Whilst capturing the dreamy people and place of Falls Festival Lorne I also sneakily organised a couple of artist portraits with a few of my favourite artists across the four days. Many of the artists captured are lovely Brisbane people, some I know personally, and all spectacular individuals. A couple of other artists - such as Stella Donnelly and Julia Jacklin - I fan girled real bad backstage until I built up enough confidence to have a chat with them and ask for their portrait.
I'm quite proud of this collection of photos particularly for the fact that at least half are wonderfully talented women in the music industry! I've attempted to make it a day by day order of the portraits, however I've also mixed in a couple of live music photos captured on two different Hasselblad cameras. Some of the Hasselblad 500cm photos (the square ones) have big old light leaks on them, which has now been fixed, but they look so pretty still so I've kept them included.
Big thank you to fellow photographer Charlie Hardy for allowing to borrow his Hasselblad X-Pan for a day. Now I need one in my life...

I found out I was shooting Falls in Lorne about a month before the festival. So, just like the rest of my and my lovely partners life, everything to do with this festival was a frantic rush….
From bunking on my cousins sofa last minute (my partner and I thought we were driving to Lorne the day we landed in Melbourne, but that wasn’t the case), to trekking a 30kg of suitcases through the city, and jumping from tram to tram to train to bus to bus, and finally to being caught in traffic to Lorne for 6 plus hours. When we FINALLY made it to Falls Festival we unpacked our super dorky oversized suitcase - which was filled with a whole bloody tent, wool blankets, sheets, blowup mattress, camping essentials, etc - we could get settled in for a very special next four days.
Have a scroll through my collection of photos from the four days I captured Falls Festival; the gorgeous people, the breathtaking place, and the spectacular artists!
